In my first lesson with Ian, we basically said, "Alright Ian, do you really want to get baptized? You've met with us a couple times now, and your baptism is in 2 weeks. Your going to need to meet us pretty much every day to make it. We're going to do everything we can to make sure you're ready, but you're going to have to show us your commitment by meeting us here every day. Will you do that?"
And Ian said he would.
We taught him all the lessons in just a couple weeks, and he was baptized last Sunday by Elder Ruppe. I'll have the opportunity to do his confirmation on Christmas Day.
It's been amazing to see the difference in people's attitudes and countenances as they choose to live the gospel.
Yesterday we had a 14-hour zone conference in which we had a training from President Parker, Sister Parker, and the Assistants. We performed Christmas Skits, each companionship shared a message on one of Christ's miracles, and we had a few other festivities.
I'm so grateful for Jesus Christ's life and example. If you ever doubt the truth or validity of the gospel, look into the eyes of someone who lives it, and ask yourself where their happiness comes from. There is no other role model, no other lifestyle, no other friend, no other pursuit that will ever bring you the same joy as that of Jesus Christ and following His patterns. I wish you all a merry Christmas and a fantastic New Year!
